Who is Purushottam Lakshman Deshpande?
Purushottam Laxman Deshpande popularly known as P L Deshpande was great was a Marathi writer and humorist from Maharashtra, India. He was also an accomplished film and stage actor, scriptwriter, author, composer, musician (he played the harmonium), singer and orator. He was often referred to as “Maharashtra’s beloved personality”.

His contributions to the films were started in 1947. Being a Hindustani musician he contributed to the films as playback singers. Below is a humorous song in his career.

His last film was Ek Hota Vidhushak 1993: Screenplay and Dialogues
His contribution to Indian music and Maratha films are to be remembered.

Awards and recognitions:
He was awarded Padma Bhushan in 1990 and awarded Punyabhushan by Maharasthra Government in 1993 Punyabhushan is an award which is given by Maharashtra government to the eminent people whose contribution to the fine arts like, music and dance is immensely valued.

More about him:
He was from Mumbai, Maharashtra, and was born on 8th November 1919. His parents were Laxman Trimbak Deshpande and Laxmibai Laxman Deshpande. Deshpande studied at Parle Tilak Vidyalaya. He attended Ismail Yusuf College after high school and then Government Law College, Mumbai for LLB. Later, he attended Fergusson College in Pune and obtained his Bachelor of Arts, (BA) in 1950 and then obtained his Master of Arts (MA) from Willingdon College, Sangli. Pu La Deshpande was a proficient Hindustani classical musician. He went on to gain fame as an author, screenplay writer, actor, director, music director and singer. He participated in several philanthropist activities

Demise: He passed away at his 80 years of age due to complications related to Parkinson disease, in Pune, Maharashtra on 12 June 2000.
