Much awaited film Nishabdam was released on Gandhi Jayanthi. It was to be released a few months ago and the producers planned to release it in the cinemas but, due to pandemic, the release is on OTT in Amazon Prime.

Story plot:
The film is about a story around a woman who vanishes from a haunted house. In the 1970s a couple dies in mysterious circumstances in Seattle in a haunted house. In present times Sakshi (Anushka ) and Antony (Madhavan) come to that house and start facing strange and mysterious incidents. The story takes a twist when Antony gets killed and Sakshi somehow saves her life by coming out of that house. Maha (Anjali) and Richard (Michael Madsen) are investigating officers and trying to find out the mystery.

The story is named as “Nishabdam” because the protagonist in this films is deaf and dumb, played by Anushka Shetty. People might have expected to see the suspense thriller, but the film is less suspense and more drama.

Location and performance:
The location is good and sometimes looked very nice with that creepy feel. When it comes to Madhavan, he has limited scope and within that, he acted well. Previously for Savya Sachi also, the scope given to him was less. Anushka is one of the best performers. In one of the scenes, when she feels the vibrations of music in a concert hall, we can see her extraordinary performance. Anjali and Shalini Pandey acted well in their roles but Avasarala Srinivas was not given the right scope to act. He is also an excellent actor. Hollywood actor Michael acted well.

Direction and screenplay:
The story is less thriller and more drama and we can expect the next scene. A routine thriller can be seen. But in a few scenes, it is fine. The screenplay is not so good. Moreover, the screenplay is by, Kona Venkat who has rich experience and who is one of the best screenplay writers of South India. The direction is below average. Director Hemanth Madhukar made a Telugu film called “Vastadu Naa Raju” a few years ago and after these many years, he made this one.

Technical aspects:
When it comes to camera work it is really good and the cinematography is by Shaneil Deo. The music director is another appreciable technician, the BGM is another plus point. The film’s concept is good for that, the director should be appreciated.

The verdict:
The film can be watched for once and after revealing the biggest point in the film, the story becomes quite predictable which is not good.

Rating:
For the BGM Cinematography, location, Madhavan and Anuskha’s acting, 2.5/5
