Birth in Pakistan and lived in India?
He was born in Peshawar which is now Pakistan and then part of India on 11th December 1922. His father Lala Ghulam Sarwar Ali Khan was a landlord and a fruit merchant who owned orchards in Peshawar and Deolali. His mother Ayesha Begum was a homemaker. He was the fourth child.

Many of us might not know, his real name was Muhammed Yusuf Khan. He moved to Mumbai and started his acting career.
When the partition happened, the entire family of Dilip Kumar came to Mumbai. After coming there was neither home nor money. After this, Dilip started working at a sandwich stall in an army club in Pune where he got Rs 1 per day. He was a sportsman as well.
debuted as an actor in the film Jwar Bhata (1944), produced by Bombay Talkies. In a career spanning over five decades, Kumar worked in over 65 films. Kumar is known for roles in films such as the romantic Andaz (1949), the swashbuckling Aan (1952), the social drama Daag (1952), the dramatic Devdas (1955), the comical Azaad (1955), the epic historical Mughal-e-Azam (1960), the social dacoit crime drama Gunga Jamuna (1961), and the comedy Ram Aur Shyam (1967).
In 1976 he took 5 years gap and returned and returned with a character role in Kranthi in 1981.
Dileep Kumar a polyglot:
He was fluent in Urdu, Hindi, Pashto, Punjabi, Marathi, English, Bengali, Gujarati, Hindko, Persian, and the Awadhi and Bhojpuri dialects. He was also a great music enthusiast and also learned how to play the sitar for a film.
Dileep Kumar is the only Indian recipient of Pakistan’s highest civilian award, Nishan-e-Imtiaz.
