Reang tribe which is also called a Bru tribe by locals of Mizoram and Tripura were pushed out of their land. They were actually from Mizoram, there were nomads and their ancestral roots are from Myanmar.
The atrocities of non-Indic religious service organizations: Mizoram people, Mizos were converted to the non-Indic religion and when the Reang people were in Mizoram forest. They use to live on the products of forests and they used to do zoom farming or slash or burn agriculture.
The friction between Mizos and Brus or Reang:
The friction started between both the tribes due to the difference between language and religion. The majority of the Mizos are Christians and are under the influence of missionaries and Bru or Reangs are from Hinduism, from the school of Vaishnavism.
In the late 80s and early 90s Mizos used to attack them. The intolerable behaviour from Mizos made them come up with the political front of Reang and the Mizos started asking the government to remove the names of the Reang people in the voters’ list.
The militant group of Reang was established in 1997 Bru National Liberation Front. They killed on Mizo forest officer. As a result, Miss came to their settlements and killed many and raped and pushed them out of their places in Mizoram.
Settlement in Tripura:
About 37000 people settled in Tripura and most of the people in Tripura are Hindus and they speak Bengali. Bengali is an understandable language for Bru tribal people. They started staying in the 6 refugee camps in very bad conditions. They cannot vote and the conditions were very odd. Their children had no proper schooling.
Talks with the Government:
They had talks with the government and the Bru Liberation Army surrendered their weapons in front of the government in 2005. The slow work and welfare for them were not available. Recently, the government thought to give a solution for their problem, the government signed an agreement with the local (Mizoram and Tripura ) governments on providing
a. 6000 crore package.
b. Which can be used to give 4 lakh rupees of Fixed Deposit which can be used later after 2 years.
c. Free ration
d.1.5 lakh for each family for their house constructing
e. Agreed to settle in Tripura but not agreed to go back.
But most of the refugees which are about 32000 people are not ready to move to their native, Mizoram. A few people nearly 5000 people (or 1000 families) went to Mizoram.
The government finally planned to settle them in Tripura.
The media and the voluntary organizations are dumb?
Many voluntary organizations and media make much publicity of any problem, which is not related to Indic religion. But, when these many Indic religious tribes are suffering from the atrocities, no media looked at the problem. No voluntary organization helped them.
Only one NGO helped: There is only one NGO that helped them. The is Akhil Bharathiya Vanavasi Kalyana Ashram as per a few reports.
