In recent times, in a few ghats of Ganga, the water turned green. Generally, in Ganga it doesn’t happen, but, the cause could be due to microcytis algae, which feeds on Phosphate, Nitrate and sulfur, which are provided by the sewage water and water canals from agricultural fields. The scientists and environmentalists are advising the public not to go for a bath or not to drink such water which is toxic and, which could result in skin diseases and liver problems. However, according to a few people, this happens from March to May, later it becomes normal.
