The media’s role is to give the news and make the people enlighten about the news around them. Media is a medium between the government and the people. But recently NIA nabbed a reputed reporter in Delhi called Rajeev Sharma. He worked not as a reporter but as a spy to China, to make it easy to understand, he is a traitor.
Why was he nabbed?
He was nabbed because he held classified information of Defence. He was arrested on 14th of September 2020. He has been working as a freelance journalist from 2010 and has been in journalism from the past 40 years.
He was arrested under the Official Secret Act. (OSA) for allegedly passing on sensitive information to China. In fact, this act dated back to the British era and it was implemented in India to muzzle on the freedom of expression. During Lord Curzon’s, Viceroy of India, there was an amendment in 1904 which became more stringent, later, in 1923, the act was remade by the then British colonial rule.
Who are the other conspirators?
In this case, the conspirators of leaking crucial information to China is a Chinese woman and a Nepal citizen, who has been helping Rajeev and the Chinese woman.
Where had it started?
Rajeev Sharma worked in various organisations including UNI, Tribune, Hindustan Times, Times of India etc. He has a good reputation among journalists. He had good contacts in Linked in and through Linked In, a Chinese person introduced himself as a media person and called him to China for an interview. Later, he revealed his real intentions and said his real identity that Michael was a spy and asked Rajeev to espionage and send the information of classified information, India’s strategies, the deployed armed forces, and the analysis in India regarding the Indian Army manoeuvers. Rajeev was offered a huge amount, so he agreed to work for him.
The above-said treachery happened in 2016 and from 2017 onwards, Doklam face-off between India and China took place.
Money aid from China: After thinking about a while to bring money from China, they started a Shell Company and brought the money from China. From 1 and a half year, the shell company has been getting money in tens of lakhs.
Rajeev has been writing articles and news to China’s mouthpiece “The Global Times”, which consists of Anti India and strategies of defence revealing articles.
All three were arrested by NIA.
Is it new?
It is not new to our country, unfortunately. For instance, during the Mumbai Attacks (2008) over coverage by media, that helped the terrorists to track the security officials. The media and the reporters should be very careful when it comes to India and its sovereignty.
