DMK’s youth leader Udhayanidhi Stalin is the youth leader of DMK. His father also marked a difference in the same way. Being a grandson of Karunanidhi, he has been down to earth. He did campaigning from house to house in previous elections. Udhayanidhi’s movies fared well, he also started managing DMK party mouthpiece “Murasoli”. Eventually, Udhayanidhi was made the youth wing secretary, a post which made MK Stalin popular among people and cadre. “After taking over, he surely has made a huge difference. He has brought in vibrancy among youth wing cadres,” said one of the youth wing members.
Sensing that Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) and Naam Tamilar Party were capturing the young voters, Udayanidhi also brought to politics and he managed to bring many youngsters to the party. He made his party penetrate the young minds. He has a very good reputation in the party and outside party as well. His modesty and humble nature made him closer to many people.
There are secretaries and deputy secretaries in the youth wing for each zone. These posts were only for districts, unions, municipalities and town panchayats. But Udhayanidhi extended them to corporation and municipality wards. “He created more posts and gave power to youngsters for them to feel motivated,” said a senior DMK youth wing functionary.
He is a star campaigner as well. He doesn’t speak continuously but he speaks in a casual way which connects him with the crowd and pull them to the party meetings as well. Udhayanidhi’s approach to burning issues in Tamil Nadu also worked well. He had been ardently seeking justice for Anitha, an aspiring medical student who committed suicide over the NEET issue.
His approach is completely different. When the party people respect with shawls, he changed it and started giving books instead, which enables the politicians to donate them to the libraries.
“Udhay has been developing himself to be a politician. He has started reading a lot of books and wants to expand his knowledge,” said a friend of Udhayanidhi.
Udhayanidhi also garnered the support of the youngsters by protesting against the centralisation of Anna University. “Students of Tamil Nadu will be affected if Anna University goes to the Centre. So Udhayanidhi jumped to protest against the move,” said Naganathan.
Udayanidhi has become a strong youth leader and star campaigner as well. His humble nature and different approach and the agitations made him closer to the youngsters. Incoming Assembly elections, DMK has more chances of winning the CM position and one of the undeniable reasons is Udhayandhi Stalin.
